I am writing this diary to apologize for some flawed thinking and expressions I once held and stated in the past concerning Marriage equality.....more after the fold.
During the election period of 2008 I took the position of being for civil unions for our LGBT brothers and sisters, see I grew up in Alabama and that should say a good bit about the environment I was raised in, extremely conservative and religious majority here.
Anyways, I was stuck on wording, even though I had come to acceptance of gay people, I still say it as a different culture and should have a different name so I could explain a difference to my children. Yes in other words I still held some prejudice toward my gay counterparts.
In the last four years I have been blessed with some further wisdom, in part to my much younger sister, she is 24 and I am 44, big generation gap, she corrected me in my ways and told me of her friends some were gay and some were straight, and they intermingled with no bias and they were not trying to change each other, like I once thought, no they simply accepted their sexuality and more importantly they accepted each other for the person and the goodness that each possessed.
I put my two cents on the topics of gay rights 4 years ago, I thought I was being accepting and descent and could not understand why I was being cussed out and beat down,, Now I do, I was not being accepting, my acceptance was conditional and that is wrong...I am a better person now, I can learn from the errors of my ways and pray I can always learn to be a better person and never be complacent in thinking my ways are the only way, kind of like the GOP types.
Anyways to those of you I offended, I am sorry, and hope you can forgive my ignorance. I am 100% against discrimination and wish more love for everyone regardless of your sexual preference. We need more love in this country and less hate. I hope in the next 4 years we can have marriage equality for all in every state so that every American has the freedom to love and be loved.
